Welcome to our blog!
Amy and Jennifer ARE Seduced by Books. We’re both in our 30’s, moms, close friends, work together, and share many of the same interests including our love of reading. Amy grew up in Maryland and has been obsessed with Vampires for as long as she can remember. Jenn grew up in Florida and loves the furry, the fey, and the fangs, in that order. Currently we are both in Orlando, FL. When we can be pulled away from books, Amy loves to bake and Jenn loves to take pictures and scrap.
We decided to create a place where we could direct friends, and acquaintances for, book suggestions/recommendations (Jenn’s been known to talk to strangers on the train while traveling in NYC). Once we started out with a simple page, we evolved from there. Now we are sharing our book reviews, fun comments, recipes, and giveaways. We try to give reviews on new releases, pre-releases, and oldies but goodies that we read, or are reading. We’re going to be adding author interviews for established and up and coming authors soon.

Sins of the Soul by Eve Silver

Sins of the SoulAlastor Krayl's world shattered when he learned that his father was the Underworld god of chaos and evil. All that saved him from self-destruction were his newfound brothers and the bond they shared as soul reapers. So when one of his brothers is murdered, vengeance becomes Alastor's obsession. And the enigmatic Naphré Kurata, a witness—or is she the killer?—has the answers he seeks.
A reluctant Underworld enforcer, Naphré trusts no one, especially not a seductive soul reaper who makes her burn with lust. Torn between duty and desire, she fights to keep her secrets safe from Alastor, even as she longs to surrender. (courtesy of Amazon)

Check out the Review of Book 1 - Sins of the Heart.  There is an in between - Sin's Daughter - This is Book 2 in the Otherkin series - Sins of the Soul.

Eve Silver picks up exactly where book 1 ended, love that in a series.  We had our token resolution of part of the mystery that this book continues to attempt to solve, the death of a brother.  Each time we could potentially get closer to a clue, Silver keeps the suspense rolling with a twist.

Alastor's instant energy with Naphre is rewarding.  The banter between them only fuels the desire and the resistance to act upon it.  Loved reading their conversations and was thankful the book was full of the two of them together. Definitely picture Alastor walking right through the door and being able to hang out.

A few more details of the mystery we touched upon, not as much as expected, although this book definitely kept me enthralled with no slow spots.  I'm not hanging over the cliff on the ending, but anxious to read book 3, Sins of the Flesh to see who our killer is and read about our last brother, Mal.  So far, brother 1 and 2 (Dae and Al) I just can't get enough of.  They are next door demons that you have to have on your friends list.

Sins of the Heart by Eve Silver

Sins of the Heart (Hqn)Half human, half god, Dagan Krayl is the Underworld's most powerful soul reaper. When one of his brothers is murdered, Dagan must use every ounce of his power to hunt down those responsible for his brutal death. But he must move swiftly—and carefully—if he's to have any chance of resurrecting his brother.
Yet that resurrection could wreak havoc on the mortal world. As an Otherkin, Roxy Tam has sworn to protect the human race, and it's her mission to stop Dagan. But when she sees him face-to-face, she realizes that she has seen him once before—a meeting that changed her life forever.
Neither Dagan nor Roxy expect to join forces for the sake of mankind. Or to have their loyalties tested as they struggle against the potent desire that threatens to consume them both….(courtesy of Amazon)

3 and a half books in this 'trilogy', the Otherkin, I was anxious to get them started.  One thing i love to do is go in blind with books.  I see a cover, or a blurp about them, and I give it a try.  It lets me immerse myself in the world/book with no preconceived notions.  I read a quick summary a few months back about Sins of the Flesh (book 3) and couldn't wait to start the series.  Well, as time passed before I picked it up from the TBR pile, I wasn't sure where Eve Silver's Sins of the Heart (Book 1) was going to take me.  Elated with the result.

The Topworld and Underworlds that Silver has created are amazingly descriptive.  While they lack some 'common' mythology and history, Silver makes them her own with her perceptions and detail.  The way the worlds mesh together, yet are not supposed to collide, is a large part of the set up for this series.  Especially since when the worlds collide, it involves our lead characters, Dagan and Roxy.  Forbidden desire is definitely hot!

From page 1, we're hit with suspense.  The next pages held true to evolve the mystery, a few times it was a little slow going, but the ultimate package was worth the wait.  In the 300+ pages, Dae and Roxy felt like they were unwrapped in front of me, real, believable, and heart-catching.  As our mystery develops, only part of it unfolds and is solved. Silver ends the book with a token of resolution and then a straight cliff hanger.  DELIGHTEDLY Well Done!!

A Scarlet Past by Evanne Lorraine

A Scarlet PastAs World War II heats up, so does the secret battle on the home front. For two touch-starved werewolf warriors, mating is more than pleasure—it’s a matter of survival. Vivian heals the fissures in Fergus’s humanity. Though he saved Vivian’s life, she’s an Alpha bitch unable to meekly submit to any male. Both try to dominate the other, when surrendering to their deepest desires is the only chance of victory. (courtesy of Amazon)

This book is a short - a prequel to the series Treeland Pack by Evanne Lorraine, the first book A Taste of Scarlet is due out January 2011.

Given that it was a prequel, I expected a quick set up.  Lorraine promises erotic paranormal, and she definitely gives us that. This book has many great provocative sex scenes.  Fergus and Vivian are hot together, two alphas hooking up, you can't beat that.  If you are looking for just that, this short will get you a fix.

From a story line basis, I get the feeling the next books could go in ANY direction and it makes me want to check it out.  I was a little disappointed in the setting - supposedly in the WWII era, they seemed to have a lot of modern conveniences.  The character set up was simple and led you on their path of forming a relationship, but I didn't have a chance to get attached.  Aside from learning about our characters and beginning their relationship, there wasn't much of an intriguing plot.  Again, I can completely expect this prequel to be more of a long prologue and our first book is going to hit the ground running.  If Lorraine keeps up the heat, I'll at least dive in for a little enjoyment.

Don't let the cover fool you, this is definitely not sci-fi, it's werewolf paranormal, with sexy nips :) Snag it up for Kindle .99 cents right now at Amazon

Demon's Fall by Karalynn Lee

She was an angel at the gates of Hell.
When Kenan, an incubus, finds a caged angel for sale in the Hellsgate marketplace, he sees her as a challenge. Certain that his skills in seduction will work as well on a heavenly creature as they do on mortal women, he buys Jahel, intent on having her soul as a novelty in his collection.
Knowing he must gain Jahel's trust if she is to come to his bed willingly, Kenan treats her more as his guest than as his slave. When she reveals what brought her to the mouth of Hell in the first place—retrieving the soul of a young girl she was guarding—he even offers to help her complete her mission.
Though he has promised Jahel freedom, Kenan soon realizes she has captured his heart instead. And as their passion for one another grows, they find themselves caught in a struggle between Heaven and Hell, one that will lead them to the very edge of the apocalypse...(courtesy of Amazon)

Sinfully, sexy story - just the way we like them. I was very impressed with Karalynn Lee's book Demon's Fall.

Lee's taken the best of both worlds and crashed them into one book, then topped it off with some hot, seductive scenes.  Definitely not afraid to give us what we crave and are often too afraid to admit it (well, not Amy and I though.) Angels are cocky, but not prude, a definitely livable representation.  When our beautiful Jahel is captured, she wants only to be free to finish her task.  Lee's set up an innocence in Jahel, to do the right thing, but that doesn't interfere with her desires.  And isn't that how it should be...

Lee doesn't leave us with just a 'dirty angel', she has also given us the mystery to unfold of who is trying to start the armageddon and what is Jahel's involvement.  Enthralling ride through the story.  Of course, we can't forget Kenan, who I felt was my average next door demon, an incubi just doing what he does best...and it certainly seemed that way.

While you can't have Angels and Demons with out representation of Heaven and Hell, Lee has taken great efforts to do that right as well.  Perfectly, not over religious, just a wonderful fantasy read; quick, hot and thorough.

Demon's Fall (click here to purchase through Amazon.com)

The Wolven by Deborah LeBlanc

The Wolven (Harlequin Nocturne)Someone—or something—is systematically murdering the members of Danyon Stone's werewolf pack. As Alpha, he knows that finding and punishing the murderous entity is his responsibility, and he's not about to rest until he sees justice done. But to stop the slayings he has to accept help from the most unlikely source—a wickedly sensual mortal woman.
Mystic-shop owner Shauna MacDonald has a special interest in the recent string of otherworldly deaths. As the Keeper of the werewolves, it's her duty to guard and protect the packs. Working by Danyon's side to stop an unknown killer—and trying to deny the potency of their illicit attraction—poses a threat to her heart unlike any she's ever known, ;and if she becomes the killer's next target, it could be the death of her….(courtesy of Amazon)

Book 3 in this Keepers series, The Wolven, definitely got me back on track.  I was disappointed with book 2, but book 3 really brought it home for me.  All 3 were written by different authors and I thought LeBlanc did the series well.
LeBlanc took Shauna – our youngest sister of the Keepers – who we were only briefly introduced to, and gave her determination, pride, and strength.  Shauna may be the youngest but she shows her grown up side in this book.  The interesting thing about this book is that it was filled with action, mixed with a little mystery, a side of quick romance, and sexy scenes for dessert.  It’s a 4 course meal for sure.
I was pleasingly caught off guard when our mystery was solved.  As we are lead through the story you are sure you are on the right track, when you take an interesting and shocking twist.  A thrill ride to be shared.  Danyon, only introduced to us in Book 2, was exactly what he needed to be and when he needed to be it; leaving of course, Shauna to be the leading lady.  I also enjoyed that the other characters were not forgotten, but they did not cloud this book.
Quick read with great grab - 4 slices

The Shifters by Alexandra Sokoloff

The Shifters (Harlequin Nocturne)Charged with overseeing the shapeshifters of New Orleans, Caitlin MacDonald has her reasons for being wary of their kind. So when charismatic bounty-hunting shifter Ryder Malloy blows into town claiming to be on the trail of a horde of malevolent entities called Walk-Ins, Caitlin has no reason to trust him—with her city or her heart. But as tourists start dropping dead from supernatural possession, Cait must team with Ryder to navigate his shadowy, ephemeral world…
Fiercely independent, Ryder usually hunts alone—but this case requires an exception. To prevent a supernatural massacre, he needs the beautiful Keeper on his side—and, if possible, even closer. In his world, appearances can be deceiving and deadly. And the only way they'll survive is if this woman who tempts him like no other trusts in him completely….(courtesy of Amazon)

Book 2 in the Keeper series – I have to say I was disappointed with this one.  Caitlyn is definitely full of prejudice we learned in the first book, it was wrong and annoying that she hated vampires so, but in this book, she is evolved to be disgusted with shifters (her charge to protect).  Maybe her character could have become likable if she didn’t act so immature.  Her older sister Fiona was the star in the first book.  She can see potential in Caitlyn.  I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, and probably Fiona’s positive vibe in this story helped me through it.  I plan to read book 3 this week so I wanted to give book 2 the chance.

Aside from the character, I felt that this plot was a little overdone.  It lacked the mystery and engagement of the first one.  Ryder couldn’t hold my heart either, though I wanted greatly for him to hold a piece of my heart, I just couldn’t get myself wrapped around him.  I wanted a bit more from him.  With only a little heat in the book, I have to give it only 2 slices.  On to book 3, The Wolven, written by Deborah LeBlanc.

The Keepers by Heather Graham

The Keepers (Silhouette Nocturne)At the core of New Orleans lie the otherworldly vampires and shape-shifters that hide in plain sight among mankind. As one of the Keepers, an elite group possessing superior skill and strength, Fiona MacDonald's duty is to maintain peace in a place where one vampire's bite could ignite war. When Detective Jagger DeFarge, a vampire, is called in at the discovery of a body drained of blood, both the detective and Fiona must join uneasy forces.
Jagger will stop at nothing to find the murderer— including working with the sensual and suspicious Fiona. As more die, it becomes clear that this isn't the work of an ordinary vampire. No one is safe. So when the killer's attention turns to Fiona, will Jagger risk destroying his own species to protect the woman he so passionately desires?
The Keepers: Three extraordinary sisters, balancing the duties of their birthrights and the yearnings of their hearts…(courtesy of Amazon)

There are 3 Books in this Keepers series – This is book 1 (The Keepers), books 2 and 3 will be reviewed shortly (The Wolven and The Shifters), which are not written by Heather Graham, she teamed up with Deborah LeBlanc and Alexandra Sokoloff.

This view on the supernatural world in New Orleans is extremely enthralling.  These sisters are unique with interesting and valuable abilities – Fiona is our oldest sister and has hardened herself over the last 2 years.  Graham has written Fiona to be strong willed and yet at the same time I felt vulnerable.  She is blinded by who she blames for the death of her parents.

We are set to find a serial killer that could either be a vampire or ‘something else’, preying on beautiful blondes.  Working with Detective Jagger puts Fiona on high alert to her feelings for him.  Jagger is one hot vampire, set out to bring justice to this killer, even if it’s one of his own.

Graham definitely knew when to turn up the heat.  She kept the storyline twisting and turning while giving us the steamy element of the forbidden romance.  Fiona has to come to terms with her feeling of placing blame as it blinds her to be open minded and she is still working hard to align herself as a Keeper.  Jagger is working hard to keep her safe, well and maybe that’s not all.

The twist at the end was definitely not expected.  Well done!

Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, Book 6)Murder. Love. Jealousy. And the ultimate sacrifice. Now, with Rose on trial for her life and Lissa first in line for the Royal Throne, nothing will ever be the same between them. (courtesy of goodreads)

Let me just say that Vampire Academy is my ALL time favorite Young Adult Read (I feel like it shouldn’t even be classified as Young Adult but I realize that is ages 18-25).
I LOVE this series.

Last Sacrifice is an intensely emotional and a wild ride mystery read.  Mead has kept her readers involved and on their toes once again.  As this book ends the series, I can only hold my breath waiting for the spin off series due out sometime in middle/late 2011 because her characters have come to hold such a part of my heart from the very first book (titled Vampire Academy).

In this book, our lead bad girl, Rose, has to fight to prove her innocence, find a missing person linked to save Lissa, protect the ones she loves, and determine who is her true love.  That’s a typical day in the life for Rose.  She has definitely grown in this series and I was ready for her to get her final day/reward.  I will hope to get cameo’s from her in the spin off, but Rose has been battling for everything she has since our first book.  Dimtri is tasked to watch over Rose, where will it lead them?  (I’m not giving spoilers, well trying not to) They have no choice but to fight their way.  Lissa has also grown in the series, and is ready to accept her changes.  Accepting them is one thing, but can she expect to win them?  Lissa is determined to help Rose prove her innocence.  All of Rose’s friends are out to finally come to her aide as she has done for them.  Rose, however, always wants to keep them hidden and safe.

The story was amazing.  The way the plot unfolds and the suspense Mead leaves you in as you read kept me biting my lip.  I could not put the book down.  Mead closed where we were left from Spirit Bound, solved the mystery, left our characters in a good place where we can see a potential but it’s not finite and laid out.  All but 1, and I can only hope I get that story in the spin off.  We meet new characters here and further develop some “passerbys” from the previous books.  The spin off has so many places it can go.

Bottom line Last Sacrifice definitely gets 6 slices!!!  Mead has written this series in such a way that I feel the passion and thrills as if I was there.

Insight by Jamie Magee

InsightBefore that fateful summer night, Willow had balanced the insight of emotion, and the vivid images. That night, the figure in her nightmare marked her wrist with a star, giving her father no choice but to tell Willow a family secret that would abruptly change life, as she knew it, forever. Before Willow had time to absorb the shock of her father's secret, her soul mate that had shared every stunning dream with her, found her, and darkness captured her closest friends. In order to save them, she must weave through broken myths and the undeniable power of the Zodiac. In the end, Willow discovers that at the moment of our birth we are all given a divine gift. (courtesy of Amazon)

Insight brings us an interesting, well thought-out, multi-dimensional world.

Who doesn’t want a world where everything is beautiful and people are happy, well that’s one dimension.  Traveling from one dimension to the next in search of their soul mates, love is found.  The main character – Willow – has been through quite a bit growing up as she has an interesting talent.  She’s got 2 best friends that have come to be like family to her and she suffers from pleasant dreams and nasty nightmares.  Landen is from her dreams and Drake is from her nightmares.  Drawn together as soul mates, she must come to help her kidnapped friends.  There is a lot to this book.  Finding your soulmate can be bittersweet when the rest of your family depends on you to stay away from him.

Magee has developed Landen to the point that I can see his crystal blue eyes in my head.  Drake comes out me with dark eyes that definitely don’t show his soul.  When Willow makes her choice, will history repeat itself, will the worlds exist as they are now?

Insight is definitely a thrilling, interesting read.  I found the character development to be well done, the story is rich with information and set up.  Magee gives us Insight, packed with story.  A few times I thought it may have been too much, but Magee brought it back and wrapped it up nicely – looking forward for the next book to see if our characters further develop and if our ending stays where it is.  (crosses fingers).

Motor City Witch by Cindy Spencer Pape

She’d left magic behind
Once upon a time, Elise Sutton had been a powerful witch and paranormal enforcer. Once she’d been madly in love with Fae lord Aidan Greene. But when Aidan had considered his duties more important than their relationship, the love affair ended badly. Shortly after, while on the hunt for a rogue demon, Elise was brutalized and almost killed. Months later she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. To protect her child—and her heart— Elise decided to live a nonmagical life.
Until she meets Aidan again, and he assumes Dina is his daughter. When Dina is kidnapped by a racial purity movement, Elise turns to Aidan for help. The icy facade she has built around herself shatters at Aidan’s touch. Together they have to hunt through the human and faery worlds to find Dina...and to discover whether or not they have any kind of chance at a happily ever after.(back cover comments)

Book 2 in the Urban Arcana series by Cindy Spencer Pape is even hotter than the first.  Pape has managed to create characters that immediately have your heart.  I didn’t need to picture these characters to connect with them.  Their stories had me straight away.  Motor City Witch is even more of a suspenseful thriller.  The rekindled romance is hot and erotic.  I’m impressed and can’t wait for more in this series.  Fae and Wolves being some of my favorites wrapped with witches puts this book high on my list.  Add in the fact that the story and writing is well done and I’m hooked.

Pape doesn’t go overboard on detail – gives you just what you need.  She’s known for her love of the happily ever after and I didn’t feel like she over did it.  We’re left waiting to find out what happens with the mystery that’s spanned over the 2 books so far.

Motor City Fae by Cindy Spencer Pape

Detroit artist Meagan Kelly has had a strong sixth sense all her life, but that doesn’t mean the gorgeous stranger’s crazy story—that she’s a half-elf, half human heiress—is true. But Meagan can’t deny the evidence of her own eyes—he’s Fae. A tall, blond, handsome, pointy- eared elf—and a man she just can’t get enough of. Ric Thornhill’s assignment just got a lot more complicated. The more time he spends with Meagan, the harder it is to see her as a political tool to prevent an all- out war between humans and Fae. Now Meagan’s in a race to master her newly released powers in time to prevent the conflict, convince a jealous Queen not to strip Ric of his powers, and find out if she can build a life that straddles two worlds.(back cover comments)

This is the first book in the Urban Arcana series and it sucks you in right away.  Pape has written a steamy quick read – as in quick because I could not put it down.  From the moment the book opens, our characters meet – Meagan is an artist with some hidden talents and Ric is ready to show her how to find them.  Little does Ric know that he has been looking for Meagan all along.  I found a little of the story reminiscent of a prior Fae series I have read, so I was even more involved in this one.  This story had it’s own twist and outcome I was quickly longing for.  Erotic and mysterious, this story is a keeper.  Pape did a great job wrapping the titillating sex scenes with an action packed puzzle to solve.  We have the pleasure of previewing the next in this series – Motor City Witch – and I can’t wait to start it.  Expect a review by the end of the week.

5 slices - when I can't put it down it's a must read for you :)

The Accidental Human by Dakota Cassidy

The Accidental Human (Accidental Friends, Book 3)Wanda Schwartz is raking in the dough selling Bobbie-Sue Cosmetics-and she's a pro at recruiting new saleswomen. So, she's shocked when a man comes to one of her in-home parties-a very hot man. Heath Jefferson is sure to put some extra spin into a lot of women's color wheels.

When Wanda is diagnosed with a terminal illness, it doesn't have to be a death sentence. With a werewolf and a vampire for best friends, she has options that most ordinary people wouldn't. As Wanda ponders what to do about her mortality, Heath reveals he has secrets, and one of them is that his former bloodlust has turned into an old-fashioned lust-for Wanda. And he's already given up too much to lose the love of his lifetimes.  (courtesy of Amazon)

The Accidental Human by Dakota Cassidy is the third book in her Accidental Friends series.
The main character in this installment is Wanda Schwartz. Her life is going great; she’s a successful Bobbie-Sue Cosmetics saleswoman with a couple of awesome (and supernatural) best friends, and a love of romance/paranormal books. Then fate drops a bomb on her - she has a terminal illness. Since her friend Marty is a werewolf and Nina is a vampire, she has options most people with her diagnosis don’t have. She doesn’t want her friends to worry about her, though, so she decides to keep her situation to herself. As if that’s not enough, she meets sexy Heath Jefferson at a Bobbie-Sue recruitment party, and he has a secret of his own. While training him in the ways of the color, she figures he could be a fun last fling for her, even though she’s not usually a fling kind of girl. That’s when everything gets complicated!

I really like Dakota Cassidy - she’s such an entertaining writer.  Honestly she's just entertaining in general, which you know if you happen to be friends with or "like" her on facebook!!  She cracks me up.  :)  Her books are infused with a lot of humor, which I love. Even this one, with a premise that seems so depressing manages to have quite a few funny elements. The interaction between the characters is great - it feels very real, especially between the three friends. They always love each other, but sometimes they really want to choke each other. Who doesn’t have friends like that?! lol I know I got a late start on this series, but I’m so glad picked it up. It’s been very fun to read, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. The Accidental Friends series should definitely be added to your TBR list!

13 to Life by Shannon Delany

13 to LifeEverything about Jessie Gillmansen’s life changed when her mother died. Now even her hometown of Junction is changing.  Mysterious dark things are happening. All Jessie wants is to avoid more change. But showing a hot new guy around Junction High, she’s about to discover a whole new type of change. Pietr Rusakova is more than good looks and a fascinating accent—he’s a guy with a dangerous secret. And his very existence is sure to bring big trouble to Jessie’s small town.  It seems change is the one thing Jessie can’t avoid…(courtesy of Amazon)

Shannon Delany brings us Book 1 in the 13 to Life series.  I'm a fan of werewolf/shifter series, so when I heard this book recommended from a fellow book lover on another site (book reader addicts) I figured I would give it a try.  I didn't have to try hard, I was completely enthralled in this book.  The storyline is there from the moment you open the book.  Our lead character is a high school junior, she has been through amazing tragedy and is overcoming it as she moves to finish high school.  Enters her headache - steamy new Russian student - Pietr - he's her shadow as he's learning the new school.

But funny – Pietr is Russian and there is a lot of Russia controversy in the news…and guess what he’s from a town where there was some interesting happenings. Could he be what he claims to be? The interaction between the two starts out as aggravated with each other and ends up aggravated that they can’t be with each other enough.  The sweet onset of romance promises good things to come.  There definitely was a lot going on in this book, I felt that there are quite a few possibilities for this series to just continue and be over the top.  A few storylines were opened and not yet completely explained, ending with a slight wrap up, I can't wait for Book 2 in Feb 2011.
