This collection of short stories will have you looking to release some of the steam for sure!  If you are not into full on, intense erotica, this may not be for you.  But here at Seduced by Books, we love it all, including the dirty - dirty.  


Each of these shorts is only about 20 pages and I am still amazed at the heat that Marsden pours into those 20.  I was humming throughout.  


I think 'Take a Breath' was my favorite, but damn there are so many to choose from.  Marsden holds nothing back.  It's true that the full spectrum of erotica is found in this collection.  With them short and sweet, you can get your fix in a few or try the whole thing on at once.

Companion books are coming out more and more, I think that if done right, they give those who love the series some fun that makes the world more ‘real’ to the reader. 

I especially like when the companion book contains a short story to go along with it. You get more out of it.  So although this comes out after Dead Reckoning – I think that this should have come out before, because the short takes place before Dead Reckoning.  The short was fun though, and we know we all have a place in our hearts for Sam. 

I will say those ‘private’ conversations between Bill and Eric are classic – I couldn’t wait to get to each one – I admit, I skipped to do them all in a row and then went back to the in between stuff.  I was on a roll and couldn’t stop.  Interviews with Alan Ball and Charlaine Harris are done well. 

Overall it was cute, goes right along with the amusement we get from the Sookie Series.

Fallen - Series review by Lauren Kate

I'm tag teaming a couple of reviews to catch up - forgive me, but I read this series back to back and want to get the reviews up :) it's just multi-tasking for reviews LOL


Let me start by saying that these covers are AMAZING!  I know I know don't judge a book by its cover, but you know, there's a great blog out there with that title.  As much as we don't want to, a good cover is what drags us over to the book.  Along with a good recommendation, or a snazzy title, covers are how we notice books.  Ok, enough about the covers, I had to give them the much deserved props.  I just love the 'darkness' and beauty combined of these covers.

So we start out with Fallen - Book 1 in the series.  I say - it starts out good, you're not sure what's going on so you are drawn to continue.  Kate twists it up, and it's not all roses for our leading lady.  I like it, gives it a good aspect.  I'm starting to grasp the story line and get into this thick book, but then I get a little lost and it drags out a little.  BUT I'm invested so I trek on, no, put it down for a minute got a new release in, then pick it back up.  It's so hard to explain what I'm feeling.  I'm into Cam, Luce is interesting, and Daniel, he's ok - so I'm vested in the characters and I'm wanting to keep going.  The story line is unfolded - and I'm thinking it has great potential.  Fallen angels, fated love, destined to be forced apart - love the way Kate is playing it out, but felt it could have been a little something longing for me to love the book. 

I can't give up though, Kate ends book 1 and you have to trek to book 2 - Torment - GREAT name (cover love already given *wink) I'm off the gate, and I'm running with it, and then I hate Luce...seriously do you have to be so difficult - so I'm getting a little frustrated, but we are learning more, and there are new characters that are gripping me.  We've got some action - and some lows - I'm back and forth with it.  But there's Roland - he just seems so cool - once again, I felt the book was a little longer than necessary.  Some of the lows seemed to go on further than I would like, but the end comes at ya, and then it drops me right when I'm gripped, thank goodness I don't have to wait for the next one to come out.  I'm not an editor, or a writer, just a reader, and I'm not hating it entirely...

Which is evident because I'm on to book 3 - PASSION - It starts out strong, but then, I'm doing some things over and over and from two points of views.  I know I need to really feel the passion, but I felt like it was a little draw out again.  I put it down for a few, couple of things to get done.  I finally start to feel that passion, about half way through, and now I'm with it.  I'm with the characters, I'm with their story, I'm with Luce and I'm twisted up in it that I was just as fooled as Luce was.  Maybe that's Kate's thing, your not sure of anything any more and then your in it.  Wow - thrown off by the betrayal Luce faces.  

So let's do the overall - It's ok - I will definitely be reading book 4 - the final one - Rapture - because I gotta know, but I felt it was a little drawn out in each book.  I could have dealt with about 100 pages less in each and been in love with it.  For the record - I'll see the movie for sure - I want to see it on the screen.  


It's almost a 3 so we'll show you the 3 and let you drool over that extra half of a slice.  

The Awakening by Lisa Anne

We have a GUEST doing a review for us this week - not in the typical paranormal genre, but a book that we couldn't pass up receiving for a review - a good friend of mine (this is jenn) has picked up this book of my shelf and I asked her to write the review when she finished - Welcome Ana as a guest reviewer -

This book is a very emotional read.   It is true to life.   How society has gotten so distorted that has made us get involved in roles that alienate us of our real self.  

I let myself get into Meg’s character so I was able to laugh, cry and walk with her in her journey of taking control back of life.  Meg is forced to reconnect with feelings that she has put away for so long in the process of discovering her real self. 

Any man or woman can relate to it, while it will make you reflect on how you are living your life.   This is a good book.   Definitely, I will recommend it to my family and friends.

Zombie Queen of Newbury High by Amanda Ashby

Quiet, unpopular, non-cheerleading Mia is blissfully happy. She is dating super hot football god Rob, and he actually likes her and asked her to prom! Ok, this book had a catchy title, and then I was intrigued.  I had heard about Amanda Ashby off and on, so I said, let's give it a go. 

What a cute book!  It definitely is a short, quick book.  It's a fun read where Ashby totally reps the vampires.  I love how everyone gives Mia junk food, and fills her locker.  I think that it's classic teen, where Mia is so wrapped up in her boyfriend perhaps liking someone else, she turns the whole class to zombies. 

I was smiling most of the book, and it's definitely for the young reader, but as an adult, I thought it was humorous and well written, and it's nice to have a good giggle some times :)

Shiloh won my heart with her Hunter series – I happened upon her over a year ago and couldn’t find these books quick enough.  Many of them are on ebook format and well worth grabbing.  Her first in the series, hits you right out of the park.  Walker is hands down one of my Top 5 best erotica authors.  She’s not afraid to take you places many won’t mention out loud.  From her first book, I can say I was hoping I would wake up as Tori J

Hunters Fall is the latest in the series – at book 13 (not counting the numerous shorts and standalones) – this series has been going strong.  In a group of “Hunters” that police the paranormal and normal worlds, we’ve seen the stories of our great leaders and our new members – except Nessa – the oldest member of the group.  This book finally takes us into her head and gives us a view of the sadness and devastation that Nessa has dealt with to run the Hunters.   

Over 500 years of missing the one she lost…and the world continues to take the ones she loves…she’s at her wits end…Dominic is torn in so many ways, and he can’t help feeling like he’s missing something or someone key.  As he becomes the only one that can help, the truth begins to unfold.  Of course, life would be easier if Nessa didn’t end up in the wrong body fighting to control her mind...

Having read the series from the start, I was so glad to get into Nessa’s character, but I missed a little of the intensity from the previous reads.  Not just in the erotica department, I missed the edge in the plot. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the book, but if this was book 3 instead of 13, I might not feel the same.  I’ve been with the series, and sometimes we need books like this to get over a hump in the entire story line.  I’m anxious to see where Walker leads us in the next book.  This book is a must read for those that have followed the series – we need Nessa’s story. 

On a personal note – My twins are named Dominic and Jazmin so I thought it cute this book contained both their names throughout. (dorky, but still found it funny)

Who can ever get enough Bones and Cat – Although I thought the story line was a little strained in this book, I love me some Bones and ESPECIALLY some Vlad or Tepesh as he can be so affectionately referred to – he’s got some big parts in this book and he has captured a little of my heart!  The humor and banter between the 3 leads kept this book moving for me.  And I am hoping for the next Night Huntress World book to be about Vlad. 

Cat definitely takes the stage in this one – emotional battle and saving the world – while I thought some of the plot was a little out there – Frost is a great writer and she still delivers!  Tragic sadness Cat has to push past while still learning to be a vampire.  Frost kept me engaged with the action.

Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris

I needed my Sookie/Eric fix since True Blood is off season!

With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Definitely full of action – Harris doesn’t disappoint on that front she delivers a good book as always.  The usual Sookie is right in the middle of it, but she’s beginning to put her foot down, and that’s perfect timing!  Oh wait – she’s put her foot down in the wrong direction – she’s going to be independent and not talk to Eric about it?  Crap!  Just what I didn’t want L.  Harris does exactly what she should do with this book, made me biting my fingers up to the end and now I am desperate to see what happens in the next one J Let me say – that’s a hard choice when you find XXXXXX in your bed – I would have to think really hard about that!

Sookie needs to get her life going in a direction she can be happy with, but after all the developments in this book, she needs to figure out just what that direction is!  I’m not hating on Harris, I give it 3 slices, the twists thrown up in this one and the emotions from Pam alone get some bonuses!

Holy Cow!  This book is HOT - I am surprised my Kindle didn't melt!  Book 1 in a series I can only imagine heats the scifi world in ways you would never imagine.  

I found D'arc first from her Brotherhood of Blood Series.  The Vampire series was short, sizzling, and solid (read it to figure out just how solid :) ).  When I found this series, I had to grab it.  

I enjoy sci-fi as long as it keeps me going.  Well, this rev'd me up and never took me down.  Not only did it have *clears throat* 3 on 1 that was well written but it had a plot to go with it.  There was burst of closeness and emotion, discovery of the world after an invasion from "aliens" and then of course there was the 'ridin' and we're not talking about horses or motorcycles!

Jane definitely gets her cake and .... well you know!  I love how D'Arc displays the 3 brothers each in their own way exactly what she needs and how they have to come together in order to 'save' the world.  I wavered a little on the idea of how Jane settled with Caleb, I just thought Caleb's guilt is well needed!  I did appreciate how the story unfolds and not only with the smex, but with the idea of what's required of Justin and his twist in the whole thing.

If you are looking for hot, grab it.  If you enjoy sci-fi, jump on and enjoy the ride - pun intended

Book 3 in the Wicked Lovely series

Coming of Books 1 and 2, I was rolling from the stimulative thrills...I had a little sputter as the book started.  I adore Seth and Keenan in the series, and I know the tension that is their relationship with Aislinn...so I was so said as it seemed Seth was a little whiny.  But as the story unfolds - WOW - I was once again enthralled...


We've met Summer, Winter and the Dark - to meet the one and only and to see the gifts given in this story.  I'm still itchy wondering where it's going. Seth is ready to fight will he ever be on equal ground?  I realized, the book had to start the way it did in order for it to end the way it does - LOL - to truly get the tension and suspense you can only see it the way Marr has penned it.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.  I wasn't overly excited by the cover, but the summary had me interested.  Thank goodness I gave it a go.  

Cameron Haley is a new writer and some times the urban fantasy genre needs a new take.  Haley gives us that and more.  Domino Riley is a 'mob' chic, in the world of the paranorm.  What a great concept of taking the "mobsters" and meshing the concept on to the hidden 'otherworld'.  Domino is hot and bad ass.  Haley has done a great job of putting that sexy bad ass to show her smart magical powers.  The mystery unfolds as we try to find out who/what/why the murders are occurring.  Good action keeps the book moving along.  

I see great things as the series moves forward.  Anxiously awaiting a book 2...

Holy Wow.  I read the comment on the book from an author “couldn’t put it down” and that was certainly the case.  The book starts out immediately in action and interest.  The characters are very interesting at first.  The lead Aden has 4 souls inside his body, so schizophrenia has nothing on Aden.  When he meets the only one able to turn it all off.  Mary Ann has the pull but like a magnet the closer he gets the more he wants to run away.  The two of them have no idea what it is that it going on.  Showalter doesn’t let the book go stagnant, she immediately tosses in the vamps and the weres, then the demons and the fae…and we can not forget the witches and the goblins.  At first I was a little overwhelmed, tossed into the otherworld so quickly had me confused where the story was going.  Of course, that’s exactly where you are supposed to be.  Love interests, Riley and Victoria give us a little young adult heat to the book.  The plot is overflowing with side stories and unique situations that explain the ties that fall on these 4 characters. 

A surprise twist at the end of the game for the vampire world leaves you hanging for book 2.  I give this 3 slices.

Awakened by PC & Kristin Cast

Book 8 in the House of Night Series.  

There's definitely mixed feelings about this installment in the series.  Cast is constantly giving us great 'omg' cliffhangers which have kept me greatly anticipating the next book.  I was on pins and needles waiting for Awakened.  The Wiccan and Native American 'religious' aspect mix added with a pinch of mythology has always been a freshly unique concept for this book, adding in the Vampyre's and it was a no brainer for me.  Sure it's classified as Young Adult, which if it's good, I'm diving into any book, the great thing for this series is that the characters are maturing and therefore the stories are turning on a little heat.  With the young population today, at Book 8, had Cast not, it would have pushed the series 'realness'.  Yet as much as I want to truly feel the book, and I did in many parts, there were a few too many forced references toward other authors and TV shows that just didn't fit.  

Zoey is in over her head and has been, but somehow she keeps it above water and pulls it together.  Who wouldn't want a break from it?  Of course, I wouldn't want a break from Stark.  He's just want she needs.  The story unfolds perfectly as Zoey has to redevelop with Stark, after Burned there's a lot to heal from and overcome.  She's getting a chance to learn from a Queen of the old magic.  It's a direction I could feel the book moving toward.  Of course, it doesn't last, Zoey needs to help her friends back home, sadly predictable.  Stevie Rae and Rephaim, let's just say, just what they needed.  Although, I could have done with out the twist at the end, like they don't have enough to overcome...

Our other cast - well a little overdone, there's just enough interaction, but some of it was a little too emphasized.  I could say that there are parts of everyone that could have been penned a little differently.  However, don't get me wrong, I liked the book.  At this point in the series, you are reading to see where it's going.  At 8 books, a writer has to give you some changes, try on something new and see where they are moving.  Even if they have it planned out, there always that one twist that's added.  I did not like the references and end with a certain 'previous' character coming back into 'Zoey's life'.  

Overall I gave it 3 slices, I liked it, still plan to see where Cast is going with the series and how Zoey and Stark further develop.  It's a 3 because I felt a few things were just too much for the book.  Still I had to finish it, just like always with the HoN series, you want to read it and keep it going until you are done, then you sit in anticipation for the next.

Cheyenne McCray quickly became one of my favs with her steamy Magic Series.  This is book 3 in her Night Tracker series.  (Demons Not Included - 1, Werewolves Not Allowed - 2)

To truly enjoy these books, you've gotta start off with book 1 - Our lead heroine is one kick ass woman - well Half Drow, Half Human.  She's fighting as a night tracker to protect the world against the rogue paranorms.  

I love Nyx' character and her interaction with her business partner Olivia, her cat, and her man.  McCray gives us tons of action in this book, almost non-stop. I'm not complaining, I enjoyed it.  Keeping the interest in her series going is what I like best about an author.  McCray does it over and over.  

McCray gives her book an edge, tweaking the 'normal' view of the Vampire.  Not always the ones with the most bite in this book, Vampires are on the bottom rung, overlooked, until one overheard conversation.  

Nyx has always had great color in both her personality and her skin at night :).  She shows amazing growth in this book.  She's got her mind in the right spot, seeing the bigger picture of her actions.  Her man, Adam, lays his claim and she's ready and willing and feels the same.  At the same time, Nyx has to keep her independence.  She's had preconceived views of 2 of the paranorm races that are flipped up and found to be completely unexpected.  Her mind racing in every direction, there no time for rest in this action packed installment.  

I felt this book has to be pivotal for the series to bridge into the next (Zombies Sold Separately) due out in May 2011.  I think we're going to see BIG things to come!

3 and a half books in this 'trilogy', the Otherkin, I was anxious to get them started.  One thing i love to do is go in blind with books.  I see a cover, or a blurp about them, and I give it a try.  It lets me immerse myself in the world/book with no preconceived notions.  I read a quick summary a few months back about Sins of the Flesh (book 3) and couldn't wait to start the series.  Well, as time passed before I picked it up from the TBR pile, I wasn't sure where Eve Silver's Sins of the Heart (Book 1) was going to take me.  Elated with the result.  

The Topworld and Underworlds that Silver has created are amazingly descriptive.  While they lack some 'common' mythology and history, Silver makes them her own with her perceptions and detail.  The way the worlds mesh together, yet are not supposed to collide, is a large part of the set up for this series.  Especially since when the worlds collide, it involves our lead characters, Dagan and Roxy.  Forbidden desire is definitely hot!  

From page 1, we're hit with suspense.  The next pages held true to evolve the mystery, a few times it was a little slow going, but the ultimate package was worth the wait.  In the 300+ pages, Dae and Roxy felt like they were unwrapped in front of me, real, believable, and heart-catching.  As our mystery develops, only part of it unfolds and is solved. Silver ends the book with a token of resolution and then a straight cliff hanger.  DELIGHTEDLY Well Done!!
