Welcome to our blog!
Amy and Jennifer ARE Seduced by Books. We’re both in our 30’s, moms, close friends, work together, and share many of the same interests including our love of reading. Amy grew up in Maryland and has been obsessed with Vampires for as long as she can remember. Jenn grew up in Florida and loves the furry, the fey, and the fangs, in that order. Currently we are both in Orlando, FL. When we can be pulled away from books, Amy loves to bake and Jenn loves to take pictures and scrap.
We decided to create a place where we could direct friends, and acquaintances for, book suggestions/recommendations (Jenn’s been known to talk to strangers on the train while traveling in NYC). Once we started out with a simple page, we evolved from there. Now we are sharing our book reviews, fun comments, recipes, and giveaways. We try to give reviews on new releases, pre-releases, and oldies but goodies that we read, or are reading. We’re going to be adding author interviews for established and up and coming authors soon.

The Awakening by Lisa Anne

We have a GUEST doing a review for us this week - not in the typical paranormal genre, but a book that we couldn't pass up receiving for a review - a good friend of mine (this is jenn) has picked up this book of my shelf and I asked her to write the review when she finished - Welcome Ana as a guest reviewer -

The Awakening: A Woman's Search for TruthThe Awakening is a story of courage, redemption, and discovery. Meet Meg Richards, a rather ordinary working mother who wakes up to discover how truly undiscovered she really is. As she begins to unravel her relationships, she discovers that being "real" might just be the key to her own redemption. Surrounded by people who are more interested in creating an image for themselves as opposed to just being themselves, she realizes that in order for her life to change, she must first understand that being perfect is not the key to happiness. She must also face the reality of her relationship with her husband, Craig. Her perceptions, her memories, and all of her relationships will be challenged as Meg tries to put her life back together, piece-by-piece. An unseen force is at play and will not stop until she remembers. A journey to the past will unlock these secrets and she will never be the same again. (Courtesy of Amazon)

This book is a very emotional read.   It is true to life.   How society has gotten so distorted that has made us get involved in roles that alienate us of our real self.
I let myself get into Meg’s character so I was able to laugh, cry and walk with her in her journey of taking control back of life.  Meg is forced to reconnect with feelings that she has put away for so long in the process of discovering her real self.
Any man or woman can relate to it, while it will make you reflect on how you are living your life.   This is a good book.   Definitely, I will recommend it to my family and friends.

Thank you Ana for coming over and doing a great review - I know you grabbed another one of my shelf so we'll look forward to seeing you come by again. :)

LIZ STRANGE - Interview and Giveaway

Welcome Author LIZ STRANGE – author of several great series, including the Dark Kiss trilogy.  Thank you so much for coming on the site.  I love the Dark Kiss trilogy, as you know J as well as your short stories, erotica, and am still impressed in your delivery of the M/M spin off Embrace of Life and Death, bringing our intriguing boy Kieran from the Dark Kiss trilogy into his own story

SBB:  So for those of our followers that have not yet heard of you, can you tell us about yourself?

LIZ:  Well, I am a single mom to four kids, I work in a local hospital by day and write tales of the weird and wonderful by night. I love horror, paranormal, sci-fi/fantasy genres for reading and TV/movies. I am also hugely obsessed with ancient history and mythology, which often makes appearances in my books.

SBB:  You ROCK!  We have some of those silly interview questions we have to ask –  (No offense, but the world’s gotta know) – these are our standard we have to ask everyone J

What’s your favorite color?    Green (Surprising it’s not black, I know.

What’s your favorite Holiday?   Hallowe’en. Of course.

From Amy (being the baker that she is) what’s your favorite dessert?    Lemon Meringue pie or cherry cheesecake.

Cute or Comfy?   A little of both.

Bitten or the Biter? Again, a little of both. It depends on the moment. J

SBB:  What are some of your favorite books and/or authors

Liz:  I love Anne Rice, Michael Slade, Laurell Hamilton, Tanya Huff, Raven Hart, Patricia Cornwell, Karin Slaughter, Kathy Reichs, H.P. Lovecraft, Dean Koontz and many others. Some of my favourite books are The Picture of Dorian Grey, A Handmaid’s Tale, Interview with the Vampire.

SBB:  What gave you the inspiration for the Dark Kiss trilogy?  And why did you keep the vampires dark (which I loved)?

LIZ:  I wrote the first book in the series about twenty years ago. At that time most vampire books were straight horror. Then I read Anne Rice and it changed my view and sparked my imagination. I wondered if vampires could be both monsters and allies, and began the series with that premise in mind. Now I do like my vamps with an edge, they do drink people’s blood after all. And they aren’t really human. I believe they would have their own “code of ethics”, motivations and reactions to certain situations and people. I am a horror/dark fantasy fan at heart, and my stories will always reflect that.

SBB: And I would never want you to change it, cause it’s working GREAT!  I LOVE Eli, don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with the way things turn out, but I just wondered, how much you felt him while you wrote?

LIZ:  Oh, Eli. Where do I begin? I also love this character, and I really connected with him. I could feel and understand why he is the way he is, and why he feels what he does for Rachel. It’s a very complicated situation, and the poor guy was put through a lot! I am glad he had his own happy ending, so to speak. In fact I have thought about doing an Eli spin off as another Dark Kiss Tale.

SBB: OOH I would love Eli to have a book all his own - You’re here today and you have so many things in the works, tell us about your mysteries and your romance/erotica?

LIZ:  I have written a couple of short erotic pieces, a contemporary and a paranormal. I also wrote The Embrace of Life and death, which is a spin-off to the Dark Kiss Trilogy. It is more an erotic fantasy than paranormal romance.
I have also written my first mystery called Missing Daughter, Shattered Family that will be out in the next month or so. I am very proud of this piece. I have been a long-time mystery reader, but have never tried writing I the genre before. I’m so happy with how it turned out and look forward to some feedback.

SBB:  What’s next?

LIZ:  I am working on a few projects write now. Expect some more Dark Kiss tales, another mystery and a few new things. I like to keep expanding and trying new things.

SBB:  We’re so glad you came over – We can’t help get your name out there enough.  You have been generous to offer a couple of chances as you visit over the next few weeks for giveaways.  Did you plan one for today?

LIZ:  I am happy to give away an e-book copy of Born of Blood and Retribution and The Embrace of Life and Death. Please leave a comment about which one you’d like.

SBB:  Awesome – thanks so much for coming – so commenters, make sure you are following the blog and remember not only does your comment win one of Liz’s great books, it also gets you in our blog-iversary contest.  Leave your contact email in the comment :) entries end on Sunday Aug 28th

Dragons Oath by P C Cast - Kristin Cast

Dragon's Oath (House of Night)The first in an enthralling new mini-series of novellas from the #1 bestselling authors of the House of Night, Dragon’s Oath tells the story behind the House of Night’s formidable fencing instructor – the love that will transform him, and the promise that will haunt him
In early 19th century England, long before he’s a professor at the Tulsa House of Night, Bryan Lankford is a troublesome yet talented human teen who thinks he can get away with anything… until his father, a wealthy nobleman, has finally had enough, and banishes him to America. When Bryan is Marked on the docks and given the choice between the London House of Night and the dragon-prowed ship to America, he chooses the Dragon – and a brand new fate.
Becoming a Fledgling may be exciting, but it opens a door to a dangerous world.... In 1830’s St. Louis, the Gateway to the West, Dragon Lankford becomes a Sword Master, and soon realizes there are both frightening challenges and beautiful perks. Like Anastasia, the captivating young Professor of Spells and Rituals at the Tower Grove House of Night, who really should have nothing to do with a fledgling…
But when a dark power threatens, Dragon is caught in its focus. Though his uncanny fighting skills make him a powerful fledgling, is he strong enough to ward off evil, while protecting Anastasia as well? Will his choices save her—or destroy them all? (courtesy of Amazon)

As we wait for Destined to come out, this book was just perfect.  A look back at Dragon and how he became and fell in love.  This really is important to the story line so don’t pass it up. (A quick read for sure)

I think the Casts have a tremendously emotional and descriptive writing style, and this book was a prime example of it.  I found that I was so involved now in Dragon.

I am so amazed at the past for Dragon and Anastasia and Destined, being released in October, has to wrap these pieces in even further.  I can't wait for more Zoey and Stark.

Zombies Sold Separately by Cheyenne McCray

Zombies Sold Separately: A Night Tracker NovelNyx hates Zombies. Seriously. Hates. Zombies. Ever since she was a youngling, she’s been haunted by them. And even though she’s a big girl now—a half-human, half-Drow private eye, to be precise—Nyx bristles at the mere thought of the walking dead.
Meanwhile, the corpses of humans and paranorms alike are turning up all over New York City. Now it’s up to Nyx to find out who—or what—is behind this series of horrific attacks. But it’s only a matter of time before Nyx is drawn deeper into her darkest fears…and her worst nightmare about meeting a real, flesh-and-blood-hungry, body-snatching Zombie comes blindingly to life. Or death…(courtesy of Amazon)

I had a roller coaster of emotions in this book.  I love Cheyenne McCray and her kick butt chicks.  Adam was 'so so' for me in this series, but Nyx is super-great.  So pair her up with someone not ‘so so’ and oooh damn am I even more interested.

McCray creates characters that you can’t help but connect with, they have their quirks or their crazy pets, or both.  Regardless, when I open one of her books (and I’ve done 3 of her series so far) you just fall in place and go.  I was intrigued in some of this book, devastated, and hopeful, all while trying to save the city.  And who doesn’t love a guy that will go shopping with you at Victoria Secret and hold the bag??  - AND he can kick ass - Sign me up! Amazing back story on Nyx past with the Zombies.

As the Night Tracker series continues on, this book was one of those pivotal books, where the story moves along, but the direction could be changing.  McCray hasn’t done me wrong yet, so I’m on pins and needles for the next one.  I gotta see where Nyx is going and with who!

(Note: There's one caveat on this question. You aren’t allowed to say the Bible, Torah, Qur’an, or other religious/spiritual text.)

Our answers - - -

Jenn - I think the longest book I read was Incubus Dreams (hamilton) or Acheron (kenyon) or Breaking Dawn (meyer) they are all very long, Breaking Dawn being the longest of the 3 - and they are all well worth it!

Amy - well I've also read Breaking Dawn and Incubus Dreams so those are definitely some of the longest books

So now - leave us your comments - follow over to the right - and then go over to Crazy for Books and visit some of the other great BOOK blogs :) :)

We're Hopping - Friday Follow by Parajunkee

Welcome to Feature &  Follow Friday (err Thursday) hosted on Parajunkee.com
If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature &  Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature &  Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, parajunkee, of course and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name at parajunkee.com, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Now to make this #FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the drop down link above FEATURES & Feature & Follow Friday and get on the waiting list!  It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

The Feature  - Belle Books

My name is Emma, I am 24 from Glasgow. Currently in my final year studying tourism with Spanish, and I also speak a little French and Italian. I've been an avid reader since I was young, and since reading the Twilight saga I've found a whole new love for young adult/paranormal romance/vampire books. Harry Potter will always be my favourite series, it literally was my childhood! I even have a Harry Potter tattoo

Q. If you could write yourself a part in a book, what book would it be and what role would you play in that book?

Definitely a sexy bad ass for me - Jenn - it would have to be a shifter series, and I may or may not be a shifter.   Amy would definitely go vamp!

Now go and Follow :)

In The Heat of the Bite by Lydia Dare

In the Heat of the BiteChivalry is far from undead...

Matthew Halkett, Earl of Blodswell, is one of the few men in the ton who can claim to be a knight in shining armor- because that's precisely what he was before being turned into a vampyre. When he spies a damsel in distress in the midst of a storm in Hyde Park, his natural instinct is to rush to her aid...

But not every woman needs to be rescued...
Weather-controlling witch Rhiannon Sinclair isn't caught in a storm-she's the cause of it. She's mortified to have been caught making trouble by the imposing earl, but she doesn't need any man-never has, and is sure she never will...
But when Rhiannon encounters Matthew again, her powers go awry and his supernatural abilities run amok. Between the two of them, the ton is thrown into an uproar. There's never been a more tempestuous scandal...(courtesy of Amazon)

Lydia Dare – the combo team – brings us the 2nd in the Regency Vampire trilogy which links to their Westfield Wolves series. I have said it before with Dare, as soon as I crack it open, I can’t put it down.

The historical paranormal romance has to be a weak spot for me, and Dare nails it every time. Dare’s 1800’s outlook, matched with independent women characters equals a great combination. Probably the funniest moments for me is the ‘compromising’ situations they end up in. Dare’s books are full of flavor and her titles fun.

Matt and Rhiannon's chemistry combined with the confrontations with Rhi's aunt, just splendid!  Most of the coven has headed to the alter.

I can’t wait for Sorcha’s book! Never Been Bit out this Sept.

Twilight Prophecy by Maggie Shayne

Twilight Prophecy (Children of Twilight)
According to ancient prophecy, there's only one chance to avert the complete annihilation of the Undead. Twins James William and Brigit Poe, part human, part vampire, believe that they are that chance. In truth, the key lies with the reclusive—and mortal—scholar Lucy Lanfair.

As Armageddon approaches, antivampire sentiment fuels a war neither side can win, driving James to abandon his moral code and draw Lucy into a deadly battle she wants no part of.

But Lucy soon realizes that she holds this powerful immortal's soul in her hands and that it's her destiny not only to stop a war but to save him from his inner darkness. If she fails, his race will die—and so will her heart. Is the power of love strong enough to save the world?(courtesy of Amazon)

Wings in the Night - Children of Twilight

Intense new read in the Wings in the Night series! More about the twins – love it! First having boy/girl twins, I’m partial to stories about them anyway. Maggie Shayne does our twins well. It’s too they are forever connected and they are the completion of each other.

Shayne gives the twins their halves – in this book we dive more in to JW – James, the good twin. Or so he thinks…

Shayne has a very creative mind. This book takes her origins of vampires to another level and brings on their potential end. Constant running for survival, defending themselves, and still trying to keep hope and love alive, all a roller coaster of excitement.

Each piece and part fit just so well. I think the ending wrapped a little quicker than I hoped, but it definitely left me ready for Twilight Fulfilled – Brigit’s story – the other twin :)

Start from the beginning with this series, there are about 20 books total and these series is very well done. Shayne reps vampires and the paranormal, she’s an original to the genre. I had the pleasure of seeing her at a RWA signing event and she is a very nice person on top of it, she embodies the Wiccan element.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Shiver (Wolves of Mercy Falls)For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf--her wolf--is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.
Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human--or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.(courtesy of Amazon)

Book 1 in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series

Where can I start to do this book justice?  Hmm, Stiefvater has an interesting writing style to say the least.  Each chapter is in a different perspective, one chapter is Grace the next is Sam, or you might have 3 in a row of Grace and then only 1 of Sam.  At first I thought, am is this going to work for me?  And then, I was dying to get into the others head.  I loved seeing Grace doing one thing and seeing Sam's story in his view that happened at the same time.  I've done other books that switched, but not as intense as this one.

And let's talk about the heat - the passion for a YA read - really brings you back to the fact that YA doesn't mean children's books!  Hooray for Sam and Grace!  Well done Stiefvater, the right timing, the right setting, the right heat with out making it too much!  Just plain RIGHT! (and way to throw in the safety comment).

This story isn't just about Grace and Sam, it's about destiny.  Olivia finds hers, while Grace is hoping hers will stay.  All the while, werewolves are real, in this small town, and there's got to be a way to solve their illness.  Stiefvater gives a fresh breath to the world of wolves.

I am so anxious for Book 2, Linger, to get here.  Stiefvater ends you at such an important moment.

Demon Slayer times 3 - reviews on 3 by Angie Fox

The Accidental Demon SlayerThe Accidental Demon Slayer
It's never a good day when an ancient demon shows up on your toilet bowl. For Lizzie Brown, that's just the beginning. Soon her hyperactive terrier starts talking, and her long-lost biker witch Grandma is hurling Smuckers jars filled with magic. Just when she thinks she's seen it all, Lizzie learns she's a demon slayer-and all hell is after her. Of course, that's not the only thing after her. Dimitri Kallinikos, a devastatingly handsome shape-shifting griffin needs Lizzie to slay a demon of his own. But how do you talk a girl you've never met into going straight to the underworld? Lie. And if that doesn't work, how dangerous could a little seduction be...?(Courtesy of Amazon)

The Dangerous Book for Demon SlayersThe Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers
Demon slaying powers should come with an instruction book ...
Seriously. Why does a new hair dryer have a twelve-page how-to manual, but when it comes to ancient demon-fighting hocus-pocus, my biker witch granny gives me just half a dozen switch stars and a rah-rah speech? Oh, and a talking terrier, but that's another story. It's not like my job as a preschool teacher prepared me for this kind of thing.
So I've decided to write my own manual, The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers, because no one tells me anything. Dimitri, my "protector," may be one stud of a shape-shifting griffin, but he always thinks he can handle everything by himself. Only he's no match for the soul-stealing succubi taking over Las Vegas. If I can't figure out how to save him - and Sin City - there'll be hell to pay.(Courtesy of Amazon)

A Tale of Two Demon SlayersThe Tale of Two Demon Slayers
Last month, I was a single preschool teacher whose greatest thrill consisted of color-coding my lesson plans. That was before I learned I was a slayer. Now, it's up to me to face curse-hurling imps, vengeful demons, and any other supernatural uglies that crop up. And, to top it off, a hunk of a shape-shifting griffin has invited me to Greece to meet his family. But it's not all sun, sand, and ouzo. Someone has created a dark-magic version of me with my powers and my knowledge--and it wants to kill me and everyone I know. Of course, this evil twin doesn't have Grandma's gang of biker witches, a talking Jack Russell terrier, or an eccentric necromancer on its side. In the ultimate showdown for survival, may the best demon slayer win.(Courtesy of Amazon)

Ok, I have to do these reviews together, because I snagged these up at a sale, and blew through them all in one weekend, so it was like one big fun book all together.

The story line was a little reminiscent of Katie MacAlister’s Aisling Grey series, which I LOVE.  Our poor girl, gets sucked into a world she didn’t know anything about, her dog starts talking and she has a gorgeous shifter.  Fox definitely kept it fun.

In Book 1, Fox tosses you right into Lizzie, and the craziness kicks up in full gear.  She’s running to keep safe, and she has no idea what she’s doing.  Fox heats it up between Lizzie and Dimitri and twists up the plot.  I was having so much fun I didn’t want it to end.

Thankfully, Book 2 was waiting right by my side.  Lizzie and Dimitri pick up and fall right into trouble again.  I thought Fox’s ‘manual’ for demon slayers was fun as just about each chapter starts out with a tidbit from the manuscript.  I was hoping for Lizzie to conquer all and keep hooking up with her hottie.

Open up Book 3, finally some time with our couple – yeah right.  Lizzie’s life isn’t that easy and Fox keeps you jumping.  In steps some competition for our leading lady.  This was one of the favs of the three for me.

Now Book 4 is out – The Last of the Demon Slayers, it’s on my Kindle – getting to it soon!
and LOVE the covers!

Zombie Queen of Newbury High by Amanda Ashby

Zombie Queen of Newbury HighQuiet, unpopular, non-cheerleading Mia is blissfully happy. She is dating super hot football god Rob, and he actually likes her and asked her to prom! Enter Samantha - cheerleading goddess and miss popularity - who starts making a move for Rob. With prom in a few days, Mia needs to act fast. So she turns to her best friend, Candice, and decides to do a love spell on Rob. Unfortunately, she ends up inflicting a zombie virus onto her whole class, making herself their leader! At first she is flattered that everyone is treating her like a queen. But then zombie hunter hottie Chase explains they are actually fattening her up, because in a few days, Mia will be the first course in their new diet. She's sure she and Chase can figure something out, but she suggests that no one wear white to prom, because things could get very messy. (courtesy of Amazon)

Ok, this book had a catchy title, and then I was intrigued.  I had heard about Amanda Ashby off and on, so I said, let's give it a go.

What a cute book!  It definitely is a short, quick book.  It's a fun read where Ashby totally reps the vampires.  I love how everyone gives Mia junk food, and fills her locker.  I think that it's classic teen, where Mia is so wrapped up in her boyfriend perhaps liking someone else, she turns the whole class to zombies.

I was smiling most of the book, and it's definitely for the young reader, but as an adult, I thought it was humorous and well written, and it's nice to have a good giggle some times :)

The Rebel by Jessica Bird

The Rebel (Hqn)
Nate Walker has never shied away from the hard road. Even when it meant leaving behind his family's wealth… and the fiancĂ©e who only wanted a rich man. Nothing was going to stop him from opening his own five-star restaurant.
And he was on his way—until his car broke down on a dark road in the Adirondacks, leading him right to White Caps Inn… and Frankie Moorehouse.
Suddenly Nate has a job he doesn't really need—and an affair that has to end when summer does. Except Frankie has a way about her. She gets under his skin. She even makes him want to do what he never thought he could: stay forever. (courtesy of Amazon)

A great romance! Struggling for years to keep her family taken care off, Frankie’s at her wits end, and to top it off her cook quits. But what could be better than a chef to be stranded when his car breaks down. So classic, yet so not when it comes to Bird (J R Ward), you can just feel the drive behind her writing. This is J R Ward’s other name :), Jessica Bird and she represents the steam but gives us a stubborn woman for the man to work out (literally).

This was a quick read and a no brainer for me. I’ve got to get the companion books, An Unforgettable Lady and An Irresitble Bachelor read before the next one, The Player comes out! Once in a while, I like to step out of the paranormal world, especially when it’s a pen name of a favorite of mine :)

Supernaturally by Kiersten White

Supernaturally (Paranormalcy)Evie finally has the normal life she’s always longed for. But she’s shocked to discover that being ordinary can be... kind of boring. Just when Evie starts to long for her days at the International Paranormal Containment Agency, she’s given a chance to work for them again. Desperate for a break from all the normalcy, she agrees.

But as one disastrous mission leads to another, Evie starts to wonder if she made the right choice. And when Evie’s faerie ex-boyfriend Reth appears with devastating revelations about her past, she discovers that there’s a battle brewing between the faerie courts that could throw the whole supernatural world into chaos. The prize in question? Evie herself. (courtesy of Amazon)

As we pick back up with Evie, she’s still a maturing high school student. Of course, she’s had to grow up about so many things, but having a ‘normal’ life was never in her grasp. It can’t stay normal in a book titled “Supernaturally”, book 2 in the Paranormalcy series by Kiersten White! (may contain slight spoilers)

White brings Evie right back into the world she wanted out of, and unfortunately Evie needs it, because we all know normal IS boring. But book 2 is not boring at all. There seems to be quite a lot going on for Evie, and she’s trying to balance it all on her own. Her first mistake, I imagine.

White keeps the story moving with many missions and creepy twists. I will say I figured out a little of the plot ahead of time, but White is pulling in so many key points into this book. Like we get to meet Evie’s dad? Wow! You can’t help but not put it down.

I thought this was a well done sequel, Paranormalcy wrapped me in a little better, but I am still ready for Book 3. I love Lend, and still can’t figure out Reth, who am I kidding?  I'm so hooked.

Dark Descendant by Jenna Black

Dark DescendantNikki Glass can track down any man. But when her latest client turns out to be a true descendant of Hades, Nikki now discovers she can’t die. . . . Crazy as it sounds, Nikki’s manhunting skills are literally god-given. She’s a living, breathing descendant of Artemis who has stepped right into a trap set by the children of the gods. Nikki’s new “friends” include a descendant of Eros, who uses sex as a weapon; a descendant of Loki, whose tricks are no laughing matter; and a half-mad descendant of Kali who thinks she’s a spy. But most powerful of all are the Olympians, a rival clan of immortals seeking to destroy all Descendants who refuse to bow down to them. In the eternal battle of good god/bad god, Nikki would make a divine weapon. But if they think she’ll surrender without a fight, the gods must be crazy. . . .(courtesy of Amazon)

Jenna Black commands her worlds. This is the third series I’ve done with her and I have to say she sets the scene. Black doesn’t over do the descriptions but when you’re reading one of her books, it’s as if you are there.

I thoroughly enjoy how Black develops her leading female bad-asses. Dark Descendant is no different. Nikki may have thought she was just a PI, but when she is driven into this crazy world, she reps it! With a new basis twist in the genre, I hope this series continues.  You're instantly thrown in Nikki's world, and it comes crashing down on her in the first few pages.  Who do you trust when you have no one to go to?

There was a ton of action in this book, and yet, through it all Black sets up the story and the world around you.  There isn't the typical romance story in here, it's packed full.  Black throws our leading lady in a bind where she has to work for her protection.  Not only is she fighting off the other guys, but someone thinks she's a spy.  Some intense emotions as they work through it, trying not to 'spoil' it for you, just say this, not everything always gets caught in time, some times the bad guys get one of the battles.  So far I hear book 2, Deadly Descendant is due out in May 2012, and like the rest of her books, I'll be ready.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

ParanormalcyEvie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal. (courtesy of Amazon)

I heard nothing but awesome buzz about this book, so I had to grab it, the buzz was definitely right on. Kiersten White is taking on the Young Adult with a strong force.

Policing the paranormals seems like such the right thing for our leading girl Evie, but she starts to doubt her world when she meets her handsome hunk, Lend, or is he a chunky old man, or maybe a business class woman? All of the above, thankfully Evie can see straight through it, through everyone. So fresh! I love how Evie discovers the world she’s had around her and all her misconceptions are brought out. I thought that this made the book, as Evie is learning the world, you’re already in it, and definitely captivated. And then, there is her beau, oh Lend, so awesome and perfect.

Well done Ms. White. The chemistry gives off just the right amount of romance between the two. Of course, there’s always Reth, faerie’s at their best, or worst. Just to keep the mix interesting, White gives Evie just another special talent. And this talent is all too tempting.  Good thing she has Lend to keep her calm.

I enjoyed this first in the series and luckily the second just came out, so I get another taste and I didn't have to wait as long. LOL

Body of Sin by Eve Silver

Body of Sin (Hqn)Once the favorite son of the Lord of the Underworld, Lokan Krayl held enviable privileges and powers. Powers that led to a devastating betrayal--murder.

Resurrected by his immortal brothers, Lokan is still trapped in purgatory. He has no way to contact his family. He has no answers. In order to find the truth about his death and who killed him, he must escape his prison. And there's only one way out: through the twelve gates of his eternal enemy, Osiris.
But Lokan has help. Bryn Carr, the woman who duped him once before, is his beautiful yet unwanted guide. She's been sent by his brothers to aid him. She's his last hope. Lokan must place his fate--and that of the mortal and immortal worlds--in the hands of the one woman he can never trust. (courtesy of Amazon)

I missed the men of the Otherkin series – so I was thrilled to be honored with an advance copy to review. Of course, that means I have to wait even longer for the next book, if there is one.
And after finishing Lokan’s book, I have to say, I’m desperately waiting/hoping. As we already met the other three steamy brothers and loved them as they met their mates – book 1, book 2, and book 3 reviews; it was just grand to finally hear the whole story of the one brother they have all fought so hard to save.

Silver took an imaginative twist on ancient lore with our soul reapers and she ROCKS a ‘bedroom’ scene, or floor, shower, wall, you get the idea. To watch two characters go from lust to love and while thinking they can never be free has been an amazing journey. I think that Silver buttons up the loose ends but leaves open a few – I’m hoping for some spin offs or the story to continue.  This book is coming out next week! :)

Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones - out today!

Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, Book 2)When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out of the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously? Cookie explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown. They show up at the coffee shop, but no Mimi. But Charley finds a message on the bathroom wall. Mimi left a clue, a woman’s name. Mimi’s husband explains that his wife had been acting strange since she found out an old friend of hers from high school had been found murdered a couple weeks prior. The same woman Mimi had named in her message.

Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally) has left his corporeal body and is haunting Charley. He’s left his body because he’s being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can’t let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they’ll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be pretty. Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Will Cookie ever get a true fashion sense? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel them as they do?(courtesy of Amazon)
Darynda Jones puts it all together in one amazing read! Jones first book grabbed me with the cover, and once I cracked it open she had me locked. Second Grave keeps it going, and has another awesome cover too.

Charley is such an amazing character, she’s got so many different facets to her and yet she just seems so totally cool! Jones does an amazing job. I love the humor, the hunks and the hotness, all wrapped up with murder and mystery. There’s not just one story line, each book has individual ones, tied into the bigger picture. And with all the fun mixed in, you really can’t go wrong. I just lent these out to my sister and bought my friend the first so she could get started.  Book 2 is just released today, so hurry up!

Jones keeps so many of the different directions going so smoothly in her writing.  Between Charley, Cookie and Reyes, you just can't go wrong with this series.  I will say, Jones tossed a little emotion at me towards the end, I just love Charley!  Check out our review on Book 1
