Welcome to our blog!
Amy and Jennifer ARE Seduced by Books. We’re both in our 30’s, moms, close friends, work together, and share many of the same interests including our love of reading. Amy grew up in Maryland and has been obsessed with Vampires for as long as she can remember. Jenn grew up in Florida and loves the furry, the fey, and the fangs, in that order. Currently we are both in Orlando, FL. When we can be pulled away from books, Amy loves to bake and Jenn loves to take pictures and scrap.
We decided to create a place where we could direct friends, and acquaintances for, book suggestions/recommendations (Jenn’s been known to talk to strangers on the train while traveling in NYC). Once we started out with a simple page, we evolved from there. Now we are sharing our book reviews, fun comments, recipes, and giveaways. We try to give reviews on new releases, pre-releases, and oldies but goodies that we read, or are reading. We’re going to be adding author interviews for established and up and coming authors soon.

Banned Book Week - September 25 - October 2, 2010

ALA Banned Book Week

Become aware and share your knowledge with others.  This week is Banned Book Week.
To honor this week - we'll post a few of our faves...

Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you See??  - - REALLY? This book was banned in Jan 2010, that's hysterical to me because when my son was in kindergarten (2006-2007 school year) he read this book AND did a project where he made his own Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you See? book, who would have thought that I now have a 'controversal' book in my home.  And why, you must think was this children's book banned???  Because the author was named the same as a famous Marxist.  SHOCKING!

As I'm scrolling through the books, in SHOCK, of course, I see another classic - Shel Silverstein.  This poet/author was one that I read in school growing up and I purchased for my children to have in the house.  His books are some of the most controversial in the list.

We have decided to feature some books from the banned list every day this week.  Sure things were different when we were kids, but the world has grown to become more open minded so why then are we banning books that have been out for years?  What could the Brown Bear have seen that is so bad for our children?

For a listing of challenged books and banned books please visit the ALA Website here and they have some great free downloads of badges to promote on your sites.  As you peruse the listing - note that the ever needed DICTIONARY has been banned - That's just classic!
