Welcome to our blog!
Amy and Jennifer ARE Seduced by Books. We’re both in our 30’s, moms, close friends, work together, and share many of the same interests including our love of reading. Amy grew up in Maryland and has been obsessed with Vampires for as long as she can remember. Jenn grew up in Florida and loves the furry, the fey, and the fangs, in that order. Currently we are both in Orlando, FL. When we can be pulled away from books, Amy loves to bake and Jenn loves to take pictures and scrap.
We decided to create a place where we could direct friends, and acquaintances for, book suggestions/recommendations (Jenn’s been known to talk to strangers on the train while traveling in NYC). Once we started out with a simple page, we evolved from there. Now we are sharing our book reviews, fun comments, recipes, and giveaways. We try to give reviews on new releases, pre-releases, and oldies but goodies that we read, or are reading. We’re going to be adding author interviews for established and up and coming authors soon.

Me, Myself and Why by MaryJanice Davidson

Sweet and innocent with a twist of girl-next-door, Cadence Jones is not your typical girl and certainly not your typical FBI agent. Just ask her sisters, Shiro and Adrienne. (Wait. . .best if you don’t ask Adrienne anything.) But it’s her special “talent” which makes Cadence so valuable to the FBI and it never comes in more handy than when she and her partner, George, get tagged to bring down the Threefer Killer. A serial killer who inexplicably likes to kill in threes, leave behind inexplicable newspaper clippings, and not one shred of decent forensic evidence, soon starts leaving messages that seem to be just for Cadence and her sisters. Could it be that this killer knows all about Cadence’s special “talent”? In the meantime, love blooms in the most unexpected place when Cadence meets her best friend’s gorgeous brother who is in town visiting—and she discovers that he knows her secret too! When attraction burns hot between them her best friend isn’t thrilled with the romantic development and this time Cadence just might agree!

From New York Times bestselling author MaryJanice Davidson comes an outrageously funny novel about a highly unconventional FBI agent, a rather odd serial killer, a best friend on the edge, a gorgeous baker. . .and oh, yeah, love.

Suddenly Cadence finds her unbalanced life turned even more upside down as she tries to date a baker who wants to get in her heart and in her bed, dodge a pesky psychiatrist, keep a leash on her sociopath partner, while trying to catch a serial killer who’s now fixated on her.

Some days it’s not even worth getting up in the morning. . .

My, Myself and Why is the first in a new trilogy by MaryJanice Davidson. I was excited to read it, but also a bit worried. Since I’m so used to reading Davidson’s Undead series, and this is so different, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to get into it. I was wrong!

The book took me a few chapters to get sucked in, but I’m definitely glad I kept reading! Cadence Jones is a member of BOFFO, which is a division of the FBI made up of people with all sorts of psychological disorders – like multiple personalities, sociopaths, kleptomaniacs, and many others. She, along with her “sisters” (Shiro and Adrienne) and her partner George – literally a sociopath – are on the case of the ThreeFer Killer. As twisted as George is, you can’t help but laugh at some of his outbursts. With Cadence, at first I wasn’t sure if I liked the transitions between her and her “sisters” as they seemed a bit abrupt. Then, the more I read I realized it made complete sense how they were done; especially how the transitions were often a chapter change. I think it helps you sort of get an idea of how Cadence must feel when one of them makes an appearance. I was also intrigued by the cast of characters that work with Cadence at BOFFO. I found it interesting to see how all these people with such an array of mental problems work together as a unit. One of the most unique ones (so far) is the member of the team that is agoraphobic. When an agoraphobic character was mentioned, I wondered how someone with that problem would be able to work with an FBI team. I thought Davidson was quite clever in how she had them be a valuable asset! Then again, she usually is clever like that!  Cadence’s love interest is also entertaining. It’s funny how much he likes Cadence’s extreme uniqueness! I can’t wait to see how the relationship develops and where the rest of the trilogy takes us!

Eat Prey Love by Kerrelyn Sparks

Wanted: Bride. Must love children. Mortals need not apply.
Eat Prey Love (Avon)Carlos Panterra is looking for a mate, a woman who will love and care for the young orphans he's recently taken under his wing (or paw, as the case may be). When the shape shifter spies the beautiful Caitlyn, it's like sunshine amidst the darkness. At last, he's found the perfect woman, except . . .
Caitlyn Whelan is mortal. Worse, her father is the head of a CIA agency bent on hunting the undead. Still, Caitlyn knows that Carlos is the man for her, shape shifter or not. So she jumps at the chance when her sister offers her a job to work with him, determined to show Carlos their attraction is more than just animal magnetism. But danger lurks in the night, and their unleashed, untamed passion might just get them both killed . . .(courtesy of Amazon)

Kerrelyn Sparks goes over the top – I was enthralled almost immediately.  Her Love at Stake series has just gotten better and better as it goes on.  This group of friends, humans, vampires, shifters have become the classic family.  There’s banter, humor, drama, meddling, excitement, action…

In this book, we finally match up our sisters, Shanna long ago was taken from her family, leaving her younger sister Caitlyn alone.  Caitlyn was led to believe her sister chose to leave her behind.  As they reunite, she is thrown into the world of the supernatural she believed were myths (where her sister has been for a few years), but she handles it as a new adventure.  And what an adventure it can be when she plants her eyes on Carlos the steamy slinky kitty cat (were-panther).  The two have an instant chemistry and it’s caught on those damn security cameras.

Carlos does a lot of growth in this book, and I was instantly absorbed in working Caitlyn and Carlos together.  This book and the last one have got to be my favorites so far in the series.  I can’t wait for the next book where it’s about Connor.  You don’t get much of Connor in this book, but the last few have him holding my heart.

Sparks is a genuine author.  She definitely writes where you can feel it.  Her humor and out of the ordinary quirks to the story keep you reading.

5 slices – when we test, it’s gonna be on the whole series, so get to it!

Blood Magic by Eileen Wilks

Blood Magic (World of the Lupi, Book 6)Lily Yu and Lupi prince Rule Turner have a bigger problem than their families not accepting their impending human/werewolf mixed marriage. A powerful ancient nemesis of Lily's grandmother has come to San Diego to turn the city into a feeding ground. (courtesy of Amazon)

5 slices, you need this series.  I know I usually save my rating for the end of the review, but I LOVED this book.  Wilks CONTINUES to keep me addicted to this series.  I am crossing my fingers for the newest book (Blood Challenge) to arrive a little early.
As soon as I crack open her books, I’m engaged.  Just about finished with one of the short stories from the series (between Mortal Sins and Blood Magic) and I truly mean it, on page one I’m engaged back into the World of the Lupi.
In Blood Magic, during one of the happiest times of their lives, dearest friend, Cullen is attacked, and on Clan Property.  Lily jumps in to handle the investigation, but is torn because this is someone she cares for as a brother and her mate's life long friend.
Lily’s on a reality check where she needs to determine her feelings on marriage.  She is such a strong character for a small Asian woman.  Working with her mate, Rule, to fight the evils that jeopardize the world’s safety hasn’t left her much time for her wedding plans, which she is not upset about.  Lily has been extremely independent and opening her life to change has been one thing she has avoided.  Somehow, closure from an ex, fighting the bad guy (or girl as it may be), and trying to keep everyone alive has set her on the right path.  We learn more of where Lily's special talents have come from - as well as more about her 'magical' grandmother's past.  Amazingly done, Wilks, brings in more of the back story.  Thrills, mystery, and plot you can't go wrong.

Mortal Sins by Eileen Wilks

Mortal Sins (World of the Lupi, Book 5)FBI Agent Lily Yu and her werewolf lover are embroiled in a series of murders, each linked to a form of dangerous “death magic.”

I've previously featured this series in a review when I was on book 4 of the series.
World of the Lupi Review so far

Can the World give Lily and Rule a break to handle some personal business….doesn’t seem like it.  I’ve grown to feel like I’m family to these two GREAT lead characters.  Lily is one bad ass heroine who is finally making a life with her mate Rule.  Her character is extremely likable and as she is growing in her role it’s been amazing to watch.  Wilks really has a knack for keeping you interested.  Rule is the mate everyone would love to have.  He’s been amazing, understanding, and completely sexy.

In each book we have a small story line that rolls right into the big plot that links these books together.  Lily has had lots of life decisions to work in.  But she also needs to solve a murder and fight a potential demon.  There is no boredom in one of Wilks Lupi books.
Wilks' writing is suspenseful, intense, thrilling, sexy, and yet so real and not over the top.

The more I get into the series, the easier I'm attached to the book.

Sunrise at Sunset by Jaz Primo

Sunrise at SunsetWe vampires are focused and tend to shape our own realities. My name is Katrina Rawlings, and I am a vampire. I declare that with neither pride nor ego. I am simply nature's most dangerous predator. On occasion, it's a very valuable quality. It helped me protect Caleb Taylor one day when he was very young. But that single, traumatic day is behind him now; wiped from his memory, or so I hope. Caleb has finally matured into a rather striking young man, and believe me, I like what I see. I'll readily admit that there are issues for us to confront and overcome, though a sense of mutual commitment isn't one of them. I'm feeling hopeful for our future together, in fact. But an adversary from my past has returned to haunt me, and she's trying to get back at me through Caleb. That was her first...and last...mistake. I'll protect my Caleb at all costs, and I'll make her regret the day she was born. So, I suppose that I'm not just a vampire. I'm about to become someone's worst nightmare! (description courtesy of Amazon)

This is a first for the new author Jaz Primo.  (we will be interviewing him in a few weeks, Nov 14th)
Vampire meets human - - Human remeets Vampire

After years of overseeing Caleb has the opportunity to grow up and be successful, Katrina wants to come face to face with him one last time.  The connection is immediate.
While I think Katrina’s character is supposed to be the kick ass vampire/potential lover, I felt she was more of an overbearing, possessive mother figure.

The book started out strong with a great concept.  It fell short and came to a point where I just wanted to hate Katrina’s character.  The stream of conscious conversation was a little too much.  I did like Caleb, which just added to my frustration.
I stuck it out, and the book picked up from just about the midway point which is when the plot started to change.  A blast from the past comes back to seek revenge, and Caleb is the perfect way at Katrina.  Protecting her mate with any means necessary (including captivity) she enlists the help of 2 vampire friends.  Thankfully they are around to add much needed dialogue.  One of the friends really made this book for me.  The banter between friends was refreshing until the couples counseling to steer Katrina and Caleb on a better path.  However, that too was also needed to change Kat and Caleb’s perceptions of each other.  While most Vampires are recluse and secretive, usually once their mate has been found they are open and honest.  Katrina went the opposite, angry and aggressive when asked for information on herself.

The battle to get rid of the threat to Caleb is done well, in addition to the twist that keeps the story flowing.  I classify this as an older young adult read.  I wanted a little more passion.  I can’t say I fell in love with Katrina, but I think Jaz wanted to bring out the hard life vampires lead, and the constant battle with bloodlust.  Thanks to Jaz though, for showing sometimes the woman is the lead in a relationship.

Overall  I gave it 3 slices – I’m anxiously awaiting our interview with Jaz so we can pull out some of where the series is going.  I see the next book being about one of the “friends that came to help.”  Looking forward to see the direction it’s going.  I do love Jaz - can't wait for the interview!

Finally the Long Awaited Rating Scale Image!!

Some of you may have wondered WHAT is this "slice" they are talking about on the rating scale?
WELL, we wanted our rating scale image to be unique to us.  One thing we thought about was cupcakes (Jenn wanted to say 4 cuppies, yea, we know she's funny that way). But we also wanted something sexy and to pull in the "paranormal genre" we all love.

Well here goes - Amy makes this

Unbelievable, Orgasmic, Knee-Buckling Lemon Vanilla Bean Cheesecake.
So as a way to get her to make it *coughs* we decided to use it as our image.  Add a fang bite and a little "blood" and

Parajunkee is featuring a great blog site - Between the Covers - LOVE THE NAME

The question this week is - - -

What is your reading suggestion this week?

From Jenn - I've been suggesting books to friends all week, so I'm gonna go with what I read this week.
Finished - Night Season (Eileen Wilks), When Blood Calls (J K Beck), The Missing (Shiloh Walker), Through the Veil (Shiloh Walker)
What's on deck this week - Mortal Sins (Eileen Wilks), Sunrise at Sunset (Jaz Primo), Blood Magic (Eileen Wilks), finish Speed Dating with the Dead (Scott Nicholson) and Crave (J R Ward)

From Amy - Wow, that's a good one, it's hard to suggest just one, you never know what people have read.  But I've got a good one - it's a little less mainstream and I find people haven't found it yet, but give it a try and you won't be mad you did :)  Dead End Dating by Kimberly Raye - it's the first in the series.
I'm on vacation coming up this week, but I'm in process of reading Me, Myself and Why by Mary Janice Davidson. (got Scott Nicholson and Jaz Primo on my list, they will be visiting us soon)

Book Blogger Hop

Crazy for Books question this week is ---- (question suggested by The Paperback Princesses)

"When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?"

Ok, This is a REALLY good question.
Jenn - well I've tried and tried not to quit books, but with the growing to be read (TBR) list, I recently said, "Nope, not gonna do it" LOL - I give the book a BIG chance.  I jump right in, if it's a stand alone I expect to be sucked in a little quicker than a start of a series.  I give it time to set up the story and characters.  I don't have a specific stopping point where I say 'Ok I'm at 100 pages it's done' but I kind of look at where I am and how much I have left and keep chugging and if I can't do it...Close the book it is.  I think it's only happened 1 time, other times I'll finish the first book, and if it's in a series, I'll say, well, is it one more or just quit? I'll read the back cover of the next and think about it.  There's so much out there to read.
Amy - I too usually try to stick it out, it could just be a slow starter and then you'd miss out on a really good book or series.  :)

Ok, now give us a comment - tell us your feelings on the 2 questions.  And visit the Follow Friday or Blog Hop and find some fun friends

When Blood Calls by J K Beck

When Blood Calls
Attorney Sara Constantine is thrilled with her promotion—until she finds out that she must now prosecute vampires and werewolves. The first defendant she’ll be trying to put away? Lucius Dragos, the sexy stranger with whom she recently shared an explosive night of ecstasy.

When Lucius kisses a beautiful woman sitting next to him at the bar, he’s hoping only to avoid the perceptive gaze of the man he’s planning to kill. But what starts as a simple kiss ignites into an all-consuming passion. Charged with murder, Luke knows that Sara is determined to see him locked away—unless he can convince her that he’s not a monster. And that might mean making the ultimate sacrifice. (courtesy of Amazon)

In case you didn’t notice, we’re constantly finding new authors and trying them on for size.  J K Beck is one of those we happened upon recently.  When Blood Calls is the first book in the Shadow Keepers trilogy.  Turns out - and we have to check them out - Beck also writes as Julie Kenner.

I dove in blind with this author and was THRILLED with the splash.  Beck truly delivered.  This book had passion, plot and the paranormal.  You can’t go wrong with the 3 P’s.  Our classic Vamp has a little twist the younger they are.  They supernatural has their own police, court, judge and execution system secret to the “normal” judicial system.  While that concept may not be unique, Beck delivered with amazing scene development, believable and well thought out, mystery and thrills.

Our main character is a little self righteous, however, Sara’s a damn good attorney, she’s got a little baggage, but stands to put the bad guy behind bars.  Try as she might she can not put behind her sexy ‘co-star’ Lucius who was last night’s triumph and now her first case to prosecute as well as…a Vampire.  The mystery evolves as to who is this sexy monster and how can he be accused of murder and the same man who heated up her bed and ruined her for others.  You are really kept on your toes and smacked when you find out the truth as the story unfolds.  Great love scenes and intensity.

5 slices – and I already have book 2 on the way, can’t wait to see the rest develop.

Check out an interview at one of the sites we follow and a giveaway for one of the series books.

The MISSING by Shiloh Walker

The MissingHer psychic gift drove away the man she loved— and years later has drawn him back to her…

As a teenager, Taige Branch hated her psychic gift. No one could understand—except for Cullen Morgan, the boy who stole her heart. He did his best to accept her, until his mother was brutally murdered—and he couldn’t forgive Taige for not preventing it.
Now a widowed father, Cullen Morgan has never forgotten Taige. But what brings her back into his life is another tragedy. His beloved little girl has been kidnapped, and Taige is his only hope of finding her. Working together against the clock, Cullen and Taige can’t help but wonder whether—if they find his daughter in time—it isn’t too late for the overpowering love that still burns between them…(courtesy of Amazon)

Shiloh Walker is one of my erotic paranormal queens on my list.  This book definitely shows a different side of her writing.  The psychic powers are the paranormal aspect of this book and she's giving us steamy scenes.  The character development was extremely strong.  Immediately you are sucked into the characters, so when you hit the first tragedy, it's heart breaking.  I wasn't ready for it.  Taige has become a hard strong-willed woman.  Cullen has a lot of regret and fix.  Moving forward to solve the mystery, you unravel a few more tragic events.  Once again, catching me off guard (which means, if you didn't figure it out, I was teary eyed).  Not a spoiler, consider it a note for later :) have a tissue on hand.

I wasn't disappointed at all.  Walker is a top notch writer, I just wasn't ready for some of the emotions.  Overall, 3 slices and an extra bite - you won't be disappointed.  I definitely want more of Taige.  She would make a great lead in a furthering series.  I'll be checking to see if there are any more with Taige.  Can definitely recommend more Walker for you.

Through the Veil by Shiloh Walker

Through the Veil (Berkley Sensation)Lee Ross always knew she was not entirely human. But when the man who has plagued her dreams her entire life appears in the flesh, can she give up everything she knows to follow him to another realm? (courtesy of Amazon)
He's been waiting...
Found wandering in a field as a child, Lee Ross was given a name by the state and placed in a foster home -- without anyone realizing she wasn't entirely human.  All her life, she's tried to dismiss the odd dreams that have plagued her, dreams of monsters, creeping through the night and a man fighting demons by her side.  But the bruises she wakes up with are all too real to ignore...
Then the man from her dreams appears -- in the flesh. His name is Kalen, and he insists that her destiny lies in his world, the world of her dreams.  To save their people, he must convince Lee to give up everything she knows, follow her heart, and cross over into the Under Realm -- even though once she does, she'll never be able to return (back cover comments)

We happen to have the pleasure of meeting our author at RWA 2010.  If you have never read Shiloh Walker, you are in for a treat, the kind that makes you wanna find your significant other and have some "alone" time.  Shiloh KNOWS how to do erotica.  I first found her with The Hunters Series.  (briefly, the series is CRAZY EROTIC, the writing is extremely WELL DONE. The basis is "hunters" that keep the human world safe, policing the supernatural and the criminal humans (rapists, domestic violence, child abuse) are finding their places in life and love with plot based around solving the mystery or corruption in their society. did I mention HOT, Erotic?) Ok, enough about the other series.  Let's Talk about this book...

Through the Veil is definitely not a disappointment from Ms. Walker.  I think it holds its own in the paranormal/urban fantasy realm.  As she mentions on her sight, this book is slightly toned down in the erotic genre, but still VERY racy and spicy in the S E X scenes.  That's not all this book is offering.  The story line captures you and takes you on a sensational ride.

Walker's set up of the alternate realm is crafty.  Often the first book is a slow start, which I can sometimes understand, but not this one!  Right away I was grabbed, wanted to know what was going on, happening next and how it all played out.  Enthralled in the story, there was definitely twists to keep you going.  I say twists, and there were a few, and again, done just right!! There wasn't anything thrown in that didn't belong, but it was definitely an "Oh Man" moment, even if you knew something had to be up, you definitely didn't expect that.  (wow, all that and no spoilers...*pats self on back*LOL)

Lee is our leading lady, she's an artist, independent and suddenly confused with all around her.  She holds her own (no whining) and pushes forward.  Kalen is our hunky soldier, he's edgy, badass, and not afraid to give you want you need emotionally and physically.  Straight away you feel like you've been with these characters before, you're right in there with them, they are drawn to each other and you're drawn to them.  Fighting together to save the realm from Warlord Demons coming from their realm, Lee and Kalen face choices and learning things they never expected.  Something special about Lee has got to be the only way to get the realm safe.

4 slices and an extra bite - what does that mean? It means get it, read it, and give me some feedback.
